Lovesick Maiden and Other Stories 2010
Inspired by 16th and 17th century "lovesick maiden" paintings as a conceptual point of departure, this installation changes form three times in a span of three weeks. Text is hand drawn with deletions of my choosing, taken from a New York Times article, “A Love-Sick Maiden: Minnie Schaefer Makes a Fruitless Attempt to Drown Herself” published on May 30, 1882. “Little Blue Books” published in the early 20th century, were marketed as affordable vehicles for the mass consumption of social and scientific “truths”.
