Training School 1999

Piles of debris are moved and removed from five rooms in an abandoned building once used as a residential facility to train and care for the mentally disabled.  Details once obscured – adult sized baby furniture, walls shedding their paint – come into focus, magnifying the reciprocal relationship between lived spaces and the bodies that inhabit them. Twin porcelain feeding cups, inscribed with the names of Dante and Virgil, are inserted in the bathroom, visually and metaphorically reclaiming the space.
